The United States of America (in English: United States of America, abbreviation in English: The USA or US), shortened frequent in Portuguese as U.S.A., are a Presidentialist, composed Federal Republic for 50 States and a Federal District. Most of the United States bes situated in the central region of the North America, possessing terrestrial borders with Canada and Mexico, being that the remain of the country is limited with the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Bering, the Arctic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Of the 50 American States, only the Alasca and the Havaí are not contiguous with the others 48 States, nor between itself. The United States also possess diverse territories, districts and other possessões around the world, primariamente in the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean. Each State possesss one high level of local autonomy, in accordance with the federal system. The United States celebrate its day of independence the 4 of July of 1776, when the Thirteen British Colonies in the North America had made the Declaration of Independence, rejecting the British authority, in favor of the self-determination politics. This independence was officially recognized for the United kingdom in the Treated one to Paris. The United States had adopted its current Constitution in 1789, that the basic structure of the American government estabeceu. Since then, the nation gradually was developed, becoming a superpower after the end of World War II, starting to exert great economic influence, politics, scientific, technological, to militate and cultural in the world
